Several close associates of former West Indies cricket star Brian Lara, including a woman, and his current and former employees have been questioned in connection with Tuesday’s robbery at his Chancellor Hill, St Clair, home. The double world-record holder has also beefed up security on his property. Sources said yesterday interviews had been taking place since the robbery was reported on Wednesday morning. A report was lodged at the St Clair Police Station by Lara who stated that several items, including jewelry, clothing and an honorary Order of Australia, which was given to him by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during the hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government here last year, was stolen. Tickets to the upcoming Beyonce I AM concert, along with a vault, were also stolen. So far, the items stolen have been valued at close to $1 million. A comprehensive audit of the stolen items is yet to be compiled and handed over to investigators. The woman was still assisting police with their investigations up to last evening. When the Express visited Lara’s home yesterday afternoon, we were told Lara was not at home. A swarm of police officers gathered on his premises looking for clues and surveying the surroundings. Security cameras were also being installed. In a brief phone interview yesterday, former West Indies Test player Joey Carew, Lara’s mentor during his youth, said he had been trying to get in contact with Lara since hearing of the incident but has been unsuccessful. ’I am trying my best to get in touch with him,’ Carew said. Meanwhile, commenting on the stolen Beyonce tickets, Graeme Suite, Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) manager of media relations, said: ’The tickets are bar-coded. There will be electronic scanners at the entrance where all tickets will be scanned. Anyone attempting to use the stolen tickets will be prevented from entering the venue. ’We are cautioning people to only buy tickets from authorised vendors in order to minimise the risk of being stuck with stolen tickets and not being able to get in the venue.’ St Clair police are continuing investigations.
