“MaRihanna” ?? First Mainstream Cannabis?

Social media is abuzz with a report that Rihanna intends to launch her own branded marijuana line called MaRihanna.

Online blog, 18 Karat Reggae, published an article on November 12 claiming that Rihanna had announced the launch of her own brand of marijuana, MaRihanna, to go on sale in Colorado in the first quarter of 2016.

According to the 18 Karat Reggae article:

“MaRihanna by Rihanna is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world and proud to be a pioneer,” Rihanna said, while speaking at the Cannabis Cup in Negril, Jamaica. “Marihanna is blazing a trail for the industry.”
The article was posted in the Humour section of the blog under the tagline: “A humorous look at life. A place to relax, get a good laugh and enjoy life. The world is way too serious and you will go crazy if you don’t take time out to smile, laugh and giggle.”

Responding to a comment on its Facebook page questioning the truth of the story, 18 Karat Reggae on Monday said, “This was the biggest thing that people were talking about at the Cannabis Cup in Negril, Jamaica which just concluded today.”

However, this could not be confirmed by Loop’s reporters in Jamaica who were at the event, which was part of the Rastafari Rootzfest from November 12 – 15. The website published the article on November 12.
There has also been no announcement from the singer, who is known for announcing her moves herself via social media – as she has done in the past for her perfume line and with deals with Dior, Puma and Stance, for example.
Now almost a week later, the 18 Karat Reggae report has been picked up by a few celeb websites and is creating a buzz on social media, with many fans saying it would be savvy business move by the singer.

If she does eventually take that step, she would be joining the growing list of celebrities to launch a marijuana line. Snoop Dogg recently launched Leafs by Snoop; Kurupt has Moonrocks; and Julian Marley has a brand called “JUJU Royal”.
